Group Projects

I believe that group projects are the best way to get an assignment done for the majority of people. The reason? The majority of people will enter the real world and work in groups of people, or at least be required to report to others. Having the ability to communicate not only your opinion but your thoughts on others work is vital in real world settings. At the same time they can drive me crazy like most. Getting a partner who does nothing or does work that needs to be fixed is worse than just doing it yourself. However, it creates experience and forces you to learn how to work with others to get to a goal. It is also important to be able to communicate to someone if they aren't doing their part or at least giving effort. Especially if you seek a leadership position later in life. This goes along with criticism. Maybe you are the one who isn't doing your part, can you hear someone tell you to pick it up without getting aggravated? You must listen and at the same token learn to criticize others without sounding like your bashing them personally. Overall, I believe group work in college provides the best education for students entering the work force and gives superb skill along the way.

    I definitely agree that when working with a group and you are all working together as a team it really helps with making sure everyone does there part because I feel like it makes things run more smoother than one or two individuals are doing there part in the group activity. It does suck to work with people that do not put enough effort into the group project because then they are putting there other people in the group at risk and that is just something that makes individuals more irritated and not want to work with anyone or even in a group. Yes I do agree in college that working in groups gets you ready for the real world out there because that's how businesses work nowadays.

    I would have to agree with you on working with groups for projects. I do also think that group work benefits you in your future career and working with others. Another big part of group work is communication which can be a harder thing for some especially when working with strangers. With this it also forces you to go outside of your comfort zone whether you like it or not. It also is harder to work with some people if they aren't contributing and or communicating with the group as much as they should.

    I feel that working together in a group is great. You get to make new friends and get your work done at the same time.

Critisism

This week in class we worked in a peer workshop in order to hear other ideas and points of view on our writing for our first Essay project. This got me thinking about how important criticism is. I  read my essay draft and wasn't very confident in it. Then I received helpful criticism that allowed me to better my essay and in the end, my confidence on my paper rose. Criticism is a vital piece of becoming better at whatever you are working on. If you never receive criticism or if you do and you don't listen to it, you are doing yourself a massive disservice. The overall purpose of criticism is actually to help, not to make fun of or embarrass. Sure, in some facets critics attempt to bewilder their target. We mostly see this in entertainment and politics. But in the educational setting, students should learn to embrace criticism and take it as another brain filled with different ideas that is trying to improve and progress whatever it is you are doing. Chapter Six of Thank You For Arguing by Jay Heinrichs delves into the three facets of a persuasive ethos: virtue, wisdom, and disinterest.
